The Department of Social Work was established in the year of 1997 at Aditi Mahavidyalaya. Social Work is a professional discipline that attempts to deal with socio-psychological and emotional issues of an individual, groups and community at large for the better functioning of our society. It helps individuals to realize their potential and become useful member of the society.Social Work deals with various social issues and problems. Students who have genuine concern for the welfare of the society should opt for this course. Social Work equips the student with relevant skills to work under challenging situations and transmits the knowledge required for social reconstruction and regeneration.
Vision: Promoting an egalitarian and just society that enables students to realize the value of strengthening interpersonal relationships and social justice through advanced curriculum and research.
Mission: To ensure that students have the necessary knowledge, skills, techniques and attitude for taking up the responsibilities both at the grass-root and junior level engagement of social welfare and developmental services. The objectives of the course are to:
1. Impart education and training in professional social work in order to develop qualified personnel in social welfare and development sector.
2. Develop knowledge, skills, attitude and values appropriate to the profession of social Work.
3.Develop understanding of social needs and problems at individual, family, group and community levels respectively.
4. Learn the application of professional social work.
This course aims at providing interdisciplinary collaboration for better understanding of human needs, problems, services and issues of development. It promotes integration of theory and practice in the fields of social work. The students are provided direct exposure in the field in addition to theory classes. The students will be required to attend four days of theory classes and two days of field work in a week. Medium of instruction is both Hindi and English.Field work is an integral part of social work curriculum. Students are placed in various settings such as schools, hospitals, de-addiction centres, N.G.O.s’, community and industry etc., where they are exposed to the field realities. Once the fieldwork placement is done, no changes will be encouraged.
Apart from field work, the students are taken on a study tour/rural camp to N.G.O.s’ and Development Organizations within and outside Delhi. Orientation is an integral part of Social Work curriculum. Attendance in Orientation Programme is compulsory. The department has ‘EKTA’ a society, which actively participates in the Departmental functions. The objective is to foster personality development of students through organizational and planning skills, cultural activities, etc. The society provides a platform for the social work students to participate and contribute in different activities like N.G.O. meet, Diwali Mela, Effulgence, etc. The department organizes various workshops, interactive session, career guidance session, exposure visits to different organizations and so on.
